30-Something Group

The 30-Something group commenced in 2006 when our whole parish undertook a Lenten study together. The group has continued on from this time and at present has approximately eight participants, ranging in age from 25--39 years.
The group is a fun, relaxed group aimed at both single folk and young families. We meet together on a fortnightly basis (weekly during Lenten studies), on a Sunday evening from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. The Group usually have a meal together and a chat, sharing our Christian life experiences and knowledge, as well as discussing everyday activities, current affairs and whatever else comes up on the spur of the moment. Our conversations both challenge members and encourage them to build stronger relationships with one another and with God. This group is essentially a Christian based social group and at present the members are taking turns meeting in each other's homes.
On a regular basis, the group members choose to have a social night out on the town, visiting a local restaurant to enjoy the delicious food on offer. Wherever possible, the members try to ensure that all participants can take part in these types of activities, endeavouring to keep the cost low and the fun high.
What does the group offer its participants? Well, one participant stated that although she has attended church very regularly since she was very young, she has never really taken the time to read the Bible, either in part or in whole. She recently stated that the group setting and the Lenten studies has offered her the opportunity to read the Bible and explore what it has to say, connecting it back to day-to-day living, popular lines of thought and linking it to current topics in the media, in a way that she has never done before.
Another member of the group stated that, as she does not attend the Parish of St Paul's and Emmanuel on a regular basis, the 30-Something group has allowed her to strengthen and deepen friendships with other members!
